Guideline for implementing safety rules

Not sure where to start? Here’s what will enable you to pick things up quickly and efficiently, increasing safety across your organisation.

Set a Vision:

  • Demonstrate leadership throughout the implementation of the Golden Safety Rules.
  • Set Goals as to what you want to achieve by embedding the Golden Safety Rules.
  • Allocate resources including a key member of your team as the Leader to ensure the Golden Safety Rules are consistently applied on ships.

Be Accountable and Committed:

  • Ensure that all leadership team members demonstrate the same level of commitment.
  • Set expectations with clear and measurable targets related to training, implementation and verification of compliance.
  • Request feedback on the Golden Safety Rules and areas of concern.

Engage and Collaborate:

  • Encourage all onshore and ship’s personnel to feel free to speak up on concerns.
  • Be accessible and demonstrate interest, by openly speaking to staff about the Golden Safety Rules.
  • Visit a ship(s) to hear feedback on the Golden Safety Rules and follow-up by sending a communication to all company personnel regarding the visit.

Verify and Act:

  • Ensure that there are checks on the progress and quality of the implementation.
  • Include as an item in all senior leadership team meetings and in communications.
  • Use the opportunity to build leadership skills and identify talent in the company.
